Paso County Speedway Flat Track Sport ATV's In 2007 we will be utilizing 2 classes..... Pro ***** Amateur (Trophies only) (Depending on interest, we might add a Youth division) Introduction: The El Paso County Speedway Rules are guidelines for the ATV Class. Any rules not covered below will run under AMA rules/guidelines. ~~ Quad (ATV) and Rider Eligibility ~~ All terrain sport vehicles (ATV's). Riders are required to be 16 years of age, with a valid driver's license or birth certificate (for proof of age). ~~~ Meetings ~~~ A rider meeting will be held following the Drivers Meeting, at the discretion of the Quad Rep's. SAFE RIDING -- Anyone riding too aggressively, out of control, recklessly, or in any manner that may cause harm to other riders may be black flagged and removed from the race. This includes kicking and course cutting. ~~ Competition Numbers ~~ Note: Please contact Alan Davis at 719-683-5638 for # assignment 1. Number Plates must be a minimum of 7" x 10", maximum of 10" x 12", mounted to front, back and ride side of ATV in a reasonable vertical manner. NO EXCEPTIONS! 2. PLEASE USE HIGH CONTRASTING NUMBERS -- ie. white number plate w/black number, black plate w/white number, black plate with neon number, etc. (If the scorekeeper can't read your number, you won't be scored!) 3. Must be secured in a workmanlike manner. 4. Must be a minimum of six (6") inch block numbers. NO SHADING! 5. All numbers must correspond. 6. No metal or wood plates allowed. 7. No perforated number plates. 8. No number plates beginning with a "0" plus a number (i.e. 02, 03, etc.) ~~ Specifications and Construction ~~ A. Safety Gear (must be teched) 1. Helmets -- Snell 2000M only. Must be in good physical shape. 2. Protective Gear -- Motocross Gear -- Motocross Boots, Race Pants (motocross pants or leathers recommended - but not required), Long Sleeve Shirt, Gloves, Goggles or Full Face Helmet with shield, Chest Protector. 3. All rider apparel and equipment must be in a neat and clean order. B. Engines 1. ATV manufacturer crankcase and cylinder (s) MUST BE USED, or a single 4 stroke motorcycle engine available to the general public. 2. Two (2) stroke engines, 0-500cc with 0 to 80 thousandths maximum overbore per cylinder. 3. Four (4) stroke engines, 0 - 700cc single cylinder with 0 to 80 thousandths maximum overbore. Kawasaki 700 ATV is allowed. 4. Aftermarket cylinders for 2 or 4 stroke engines are allowed. 5. NO fuel injection (constant flow or EFI) allowed unless O.E.M. equipped with that specific engine. 6. Throttle -- must be equipped to be self-closing. C. Fuel 1. Pump gasoline or race gasoline only. Two strokes can use pre-mixed fuel. 2. No alcohol / methanol allowed. 3. NO nitro, nitrous oxide, or oxygenating agents (propane, propylene oxide, butane) are allowed, or may be introduced into any portion of the fuel/air induction system. D. Exhaust Systems (Sound level testing will be utilized throughout the event). 1. Must provide a sound limitation of 95dB at 40 ft.(remember: we need to be courteous neighbors, as we are very close to the town of Calhan). 2. Must be securely attached together and to the frame. 3. Must remain inboard of the rider's legs when sitting on the ATV. E. Kill Devices 1. All ATV's must be equipped with a functional tether type Mechanical kill device, ignition cut off, or button attached to ATV and the rider. This is so the ignition is cut off at any time the rider becomes separated from the ATV. F. Wheelbase 1. Maximum overall outside tire width for all four wheels is 52". G. Wings/Air foils 1. The addition of air foils, wings, or other devices intended solely for the purpose of streamlining is PROHIBITED. H. Side Bars (Nerf bars) 1. Side bars (nerf bars) are REQUIRED. 2. They must be of a closed loop design. 3. They cannot extend beyond a point of widest dimension of the ATV when measured with a straight edge touching the front and rear wheels. 4. The bars should be covered with material so as to prevent the riders feet from going below the bars. Webbing or plastic mesh are acceptable material. 5. NO sharp protruding or open ends allowed. I. Wheels & Tires 1. The tread pattern of the tires may be re-grooved, or cut provided they are done in a safe and workmanlike manner. 2. NO rubber or metal studs or foreign material may be added to the tire tread. J. Suspension 1. Open, but everything must be mechanically secured (bolted on). 2. No tie downs. K. Brakes 1. Shall have functional front and rear brakes, capable of locking up wheels at tech. inspection. 2. Must have all brakes as originally manufactured or better. L. Handlebars 1. Must be of aluminum, steel, titanium, or another metal approved by AMA. Repaired, cracked or broken handlebars are PROHIBITED. 2. Handlebar mounts can be allowed to adjust to rider. M. Headlights 1. Must be removed or covered by tape to prevent breakage. N. Fire Extinguishers 1. Every entrant must have in his/her pit area a fully charged fire extinguisher of five (5) lb. capacity. REMINDER: Any rules not covered will run under AMA rules/guidelines. ~~~ Right To Protest~~ 1. The right to protest lies only with the rider and/or owner. 2. If engine teardown is involved in the protest, a protest fee of $ 150.00 is required. ~~~ Line Up and Starts~~~ 1. The riders will determine the line up of the ATV's. 2. Start point will be determined by all competitors, and will be marked. All ATV's will start from that point. Front starting line will be 6 riders wide, by however many rows may be needed (track conditions and safety concerns could determine a different number). 3. No rolling starts allowed. All ATV's will start from a dead stop. 4. Heat winner (s) will determine starting spot in the Feature (1 thru 12). 5. Semi races determine who goes to the Feature in cases of more than 12 ATV's per class. 5. Heat races will be 5 laps. Features will be 7 laps. There will be a maximum of 12 ATV's in the Feature.
